Terms of Service

By installing the CogniTube Chrome extension, accessing cognitube.io, or using any part of the CogniTube service, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, do not install or use CogniTube.

CogniTube is a Chrome browser extension that generates AI-powered summaries of YouTube videos, and allows users to save bookmarks and notes associated with video content. The service is accessible through the extension and through the companion website at cognitube.io.

CogniTube is an independent product and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or in any way officially connected to YouTube, Google LLC, or Alphabet Inc. YouTube is a trademark of Google LLC.

The service is provided in two tiers: a Free plan and a Pro plan (see Section 4).

The service is in active development. Features may change, be added, or be removed over time. We will make reasonable efforts to communicate significant changes, but we do not guarantee the permanent availability of any specific feature.

The service depends on third-party providers including AI model APIs, cloud infrastructure, and payment processors. We are not responsible for disruptions or changes to the service caused by the unavailability or modification of these third-party services.

You may use certain features of CogniTube without creating an account (anonymous use). However, to access the full Free plan or the Pro plan, you must sign in using a valid Google account via Google OAuth.

By signing in, you represent that:

• The Google account you use is legitimately yours.
• You will not use the service for any unlawful purpose.
• You will provide accurate information where requested.

You are responsible for maintaining the security of your Google account. CogniTube is not responsible for any loss or damage arising from unauthorized access to your account.

4.1 Free Plan

The Free plan includes:

• 1 AI summary without signing in (anonymous, one-time per installation).
• 3 AI summaries per month for signed-in users.
• Up to 5 bookmarks per video.
• Notes (stored locally on your device).
• Data stored exclusively in your browser. No cloud backup.

4.2 Pro Plan

The Pro plan includes:

• Unlimited AI summaries (subject to reasonable daily usage limits for infrastructure stability).
• Unlimited bookmarks per video.
• Access to advanced summary types (Quick Summary, Advanced Summary with timestamps).
• Cloud sync of summaries, bookmarks, and notes via our secure database.
• Additional features as made available from time to time.

The Pro plan is billed at €4.99 per month via Stripe.

4.3 Plan Downgrade

If your Pro subscription is cancelled or lapses, your account will revert to the Free plan. Your locally stored data remains accessible. Cloud data stored during your Pro period will be retained in accordance with our Privacy Policy but may not be accessible under the Free plan. Bookmarks stored in excess of the free plan limit (5 per video) will remain readable but the ability to add new bookmarks will be subject to free plan limits.

4.4 Beta Period

During our initial beta phase, Pro features may be made available to all signed-in users at no charge for a limited period. This is a temporary promotional arrangement and does not constitute a permanent change to the plan structure. We reserve the right to end the beta period and activate standard billing at any time with reasonable notice.

4.5 Right to Modify Pricing and Plans

We reserve the right to change the features included in each plan, or to adjust pricing, at any time. If you are an active paying subscriber, we will provide reasonable advance notice before any price change takes effect. Your continued use of the Pro plan after a price change constitutes your acceptance of the new pricing.

You agree to use CogniTube only for lawful purposes and in accordance with these Terms. You agree not to:

• Use the service for any illegal, fraudulent, or harmful activity.
• Use the service for commercial purposes — including reselling, redistributing, or monetizing access to AI-generated outputs — without our prior written consent.
• Attempt to reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble, or copy any part of the CogniTube extension, codebase, or backend infrastructure.
• Circumvent, disable, or otherwise interfere with usage limits, subscription checks, authentication mechanisms, or any security feature of the service.
• Use automated tools, bots, or scripts to interact with the service in ways not intended or authorized.
• Attempt to gain unauthorized access to other users' data or to our backend systems.
• Resell, sublicense, or redistribute the service or any part of it without our written permission.
• Use the service in a manner that could damage, overload, or impair our infrastructure or the experience of other users.

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate access to the service for any user who violates these Terms, without prior notice and without liability.

CogniTube uses artificial intelligence to generate summaries of YouTube video content. By using these features, you acknowledge and agree that:

• AI outputs may be inaccurate, incomplete, or misleading. Summaries are generated automatically based on video transcripts and are not reviewed or verified by a human.
• AI outputs are not a substitute for watching the original video or for professional, legal, medical, financial, or any other form of expert advice.
• You remain solely responsible for how you use, share, or act upon AI-generated content. CogniTube accepts no liability for decisions made based on AI-generated summaries.
• The quality of summaries depends on the quality and availability of the underlying video transcript, which is provided by YouTube and may be auto-generated, incomplete, or incorrect.
• AI models are third-party services that may change over time. We do not guarantee the accuracy, consistency, or availability of AI outputs.

7.1 Recurring Billing

The Pro plan is a subscription that renews automatically each month. By subscribing, you authorize Stripe to charge your payment method on a recurring monthly basis until you cancel. You are responsible for ensuring your payment details are current and valid.

7.2 Payment Processing

All payments are processed by Stripe, a third-party payment processor. CogniTube does not store your credit card or banking details. Your use of Stripe's payment services is subject to Stripe's Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.

7.3 Cancellation

You may cancel your Pro subscription at any time through the Stripe Customer Portal, accessible through your account settings within the CogniTube extension or by contacting us at support@cognitube.io. Upon cancellation, your Pro access will remain active until the end of your current billing period, after which your account will revert to the Free plan.

Cancellation does not delete your account or your locally stored data.

7.4 Refunds

We do not offer automatic refunds for subscription payments or partial billing periods. However, we may issue refunds on a case-by-case basis at our sole discretion, where we consider it fair and reasonable given the circumstances. To request a refund, contact us at support@cognitube.io.

7.5 Failed Payments

If a payment fails, Stripe will automatically retry the charge over a period of several days. If payment cannot be collected after retries, your account may be downgraded to the Free plan. Your data will not be deleted immediately upon downgrade.

8.1 CogniTube Ownership

CogniTube and all its components — including the Chrome extension, website, code, design, branding, and documentation — are the exclusive property of CogniTube and its creators. All rights are reserved. Nothing in these Terms grants you any ownership interest in the service.

8.2 Limited License

Subject to your compliance with these Terms, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use the CogniTube extension for your personal, non-commercial use.

This license does not include the right to copy, modify, distribute, sell, reverse engineer, or create derivative works based on CogniTube.

8.3 Your Content

You retain ownership of any content you create using CogniTube, including notes and bookmarks. By storing content through our service, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive license to store and transmit that content solely for the purpose of providing the service to you. We do not claim ownership of your content and do not use it for any other purpose.

8.4 Third-Party Content

CogniTube processes publicly available YouTube video transcripts to generate summaries. We do not claim ownership of YouTube video content or transcripts. Use of this content is incidental to the provision of the service and is limited to generating summaries for your personal use.

9.1 Changes to the Service

We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the service at any time, with or without notice. We will make reasonable efforts to communicate significant changes in advance. We are not liable to you or any third party for any modification, suspension, or discontinuation of the service.

In the event of permanent discontinuation of the service, we will make reasonable efforts to provide users with advance notice and an opportunity to export their data before shutdown.

9.2 Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms at any time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. For material changes, we will make reasonable efforts to notify you through the extension or website. Your continued use of CogniTube after the revised Terms are posted constitutes your acceptance of the changes.

The service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied. To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, we disclaim all warranties, including but not limited to:

• Warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.
• Warranties that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure.
• Warranties regarding the accuracy or reliability of AI-generated outputs.
• Warranties regarding the continuous availability of third-party services on which the service depends.

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, CogniTube and its creators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages — including but not limited to loss of data, loss of revenue, or loss of business — arising out of or related to your use of the service, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, our total aggregate liability to you for any claim arising out of or related to these Terms or the service shall not exceed the total fees actually paid by you to CogniTube in the three (3) months preceding the event giving rise to the claim. If you have not made any payments (including free plan users), our liability shall be limited to the minimum extent permitted by applicable law.

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law.

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your access to CogniTube at any time, with or without cause. Where possible, we will make reasonable efforts to notify you in advance, except where immediate action is necessary to protect the service, other users, or third parties.

You may stop using the service at any time by uninstalling the extension and discontinuing use of cognitube.io. If you wish to delete your account and associated cloud data, contact us at support@cognitube.io. Account deletion requests will be processed in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

Upon termination, your right to use the service ceases immediately. Locally stored data may remain on your device until you uninstall the extension. Pro user cloud data will be handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

If you have a concern or dispute relating to these Terms or the service, we encourage you to contact us at support@cognitube.io so we can attempt to resolve it informally before any formal action is taken. We are committed to addressing issues fairly and in good faith.

If a dispute cannot be resolved informally, it shall be submitted to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Spain, and these Terms shall be governed by Spanish law, without regard to its conflict of law provisions.
